Blackburn Market welcomed a family from New Zealand this week on the day of the Queen’s visit to Blackburn. The Queen was visiting Blackburn to attend the Maundy Service at Blackburn Cathedral and the Barker family could probably claim the accolade for the furthest travelled to attend the Royal event.
Jacqui and David Barker with their children Yardley (aged 8) and Magnolia (aged 7) had travelled from New Zealand to visit Jacqui’s parents, Roy and Barbara Eccleston from Rishton. The family from Birkenhead, Aukland were excited once they realised their trip coincided with the Queen’s visit to Blackburn and couldn’t miss the opportunity.
Jacqui said, “We are here for four weeks and it is the first chance that Yardley and Magnolia have had to meet their grandparents. So with this and the chance to see the Queen, it has been a very special trip.”
