A crafty team will join the line-up at Blackburn Market to provide a regular programme of fun, free ‘make and take’ activities for children.
Local artist, Julia Swarbrick leads the Market Make ‘n’ Do team from Blackburn and Darwen who will combine their knowledge and creativity to bring out the artist in everyone. They have experience of delivering interactive workshops to a wide range of groups across the North West.
With experience and imagination they will offer an exciting range of art and craft workshops; from knitting to kite making, printing to paper craft, model making and mural painting. They will be in Blackburn Market throughout the year.
To celebrate half term, the first Saturday event will be a Wild World Craft Workshop on Saturday 24 May using recycled materials or things you might find from a walk in the woods.
Julia explains, ‘At the first session you will be able to learn to print by hand or have a go with a unique bottle jack printing press which I’ve created. Children will be able to try printing with leaves, feathers and other found objects or make a picture or gift box with stamps of their local wildlife such as owls, robins and squirrels. They will also be able to create decorative picture frames from twigs and leaves.’
Commercial Manager, David Smith explains, ‘The ‘Make and Do’ team, Angela and Julia, are part of our regular programme of events with new characters on the market. This now includes celebrity chef, Philippa James with cooking shows in a pop up demonstration kitchen, and Phil Knight’s ‘Plug in and Play’ monthly buskers.’
