Ambassador students and bloggers from Blackburn College who were given a VIP tour around Blackburn Market have given the experience a thumbs up on the college website. The trip was arranged to allow the young people a chance to experience modern market shopping and at the same time to show that, as well as being a great place to learn, Blackburn College has plenty of facilities for students on the doorstep.
The young people were accompanied by Lynsey Aspinall from the marketing department at Blackburn College and members of the Market’s communication team. They heard about the success of well-established traders like Exchange Coffee and Whittakers Butchers. The team also met traders at some of the latest, innovative businesses like Kitty Honey, Jamaican Food, Parcels & Post and Pizza Speedway. They were then provided with lunch vouchers to sample some of the foods available.
Writing of her experience in her college blog, one student called Zahrah said, ‘I was surprised with the stall owners’ stories and the contribution, care and input the Market management provides for the stalls’ success. My view of the ‘traditional’ market has changed I will definitely be a regular customer at the Market as I feel it caters to different age ranges including us teenagers. The experience was one of a kind, sensational and exquisite.’
Blackburn Market Commercial Manager, David Smith said, ‘I’m pleased the visit was a success! We’re delighted to be working with Blackburn College and this was a great way for the Market to promote itself to new customers. We are always happy to arrange guided tours and sampling visits like this. We also promote trips for groups from outside the town who haven’t been to Blackburn Market or visited us lately to see how much things have changed. We can create packages for coaches to include Cathedral or Museum Tours or tickets to King Georges Hall.’
