A giant 400lb pumpkin will be carved in Blackburn Market to kick off a week of half term activities at Blackburn Market.
Simon McMinnis who has featured on the BBC One show with his intricate life-like carvings will be creating a masterpiece in the market hall on Saturday 26th October where it will be on display till Tuesday. Hallowe’en characters, craft activities and face painting will follow throughout the week.
The pumpkin carving kicks off an exciting new programme of free activities aimed at families running across the autumn which will include theatre sideshows, choir performances, a community art wall as well as make and take craft sessions. Pudsey Bear will appear in November when the market will also celebrate Lancashire Day with a Lancashire folk group.
Councillor Maureen Bateson, Executive Member for Regeneration at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council says she wants the market to become a hub for the community where people enjoy more than just shopping.
‘We want to create a vibrant space which will attract a younger profile customer who will be enticed by the quality service and interaction with the traders, value for money prices and the great atmosphere. Our events will be free, create a buzz in the market and give added value to the shopping experience’
