Merriment and mirth is on offer this weekend as Blackburn Market gets into the spirit of Christmas with the Bread & Butter Theatre Company. Their walkabout characters will be meeting shoppers throughout the day and include a karaoke act by some singing Christmas crackers and a pair of comedy elves. There will also be free face painting and a Christmas crafts workshop for children.
Looking ahead to the 2014, Commercial Manager David Smith plans to develop a more extensive programme of activities involving the whole community by creating a series of zones. He said, ‘We want community organisations and charities and people of all ages to come and use the market so that we can develop it as a hub where people can enjoy a unique shopping experience.’
A calendar of events for the new year is still being finalised but the high profile programme will continue with regular craft and workshop activities. There will also be a buskers’ bay for local musicians opening out on to Church Street and a demonstration kitchen which will be launched with a celebrity chef. A ‘Magic Carpet in the Market’ will be created with an interactive floor area.
A Burns Night celebration on 25th January will include a visit from a Scottish piper and the King and Queen of Hearts will mark Valentines Day with an opportunity to send an online message to a loved one on social media from the Market’s pop up photo booth.
