Blackburn Market’s, Alan Taylor was the winner of the St. George’s Day best dressed stall competition which was part of celebrations across the town centre on Saturday 26 April. Alan who runs the temperance bar and sells traditional Lancashire foods is a big heritage fan and went to town with a giant flag, bunting and full knight’s costume complete with chain mail headdress. The best decorated pub award was presented to the Brownhill Arms.
A dragon walkabout character entertained stall holders and children in the market where there was a colouring competition to win inflatable dragons and wooden dragon shields.
John Williams from the Society of St George said, ‘We had a marvellous day, helped of course by the weather. The procession from the town hall, the community sing-along and the exhibition with the dragon at the Cathedral were all well received.’
Over 1500 token roses and badges were presented to ladies and young children by the Society of St George in the town centre where activities included a band, fairground and arts and crafts activities.
