Tom Wood grew up on the family farm in Dutton working with his father. So as a young boy he had seen a lot in the business, which got him hooked on the trade.
His personal motto ‘Passionate about meat and what you eat’ has been a personal journey, striving to be the best in his field. He has worked to achieve the Gold Standard for Butchery awarded by the national body, Eblex. The home-grown butcher competed in the Team GB Butchery team in the Tri Nations competition for the past two years and was awarded the position of Team Captain in the 2018 World Butchery Challenge.
The Team GB captain also dabbles in social media, he started a Tom Woods Artisan Butchers Facebook page to express his views and to see butchering through his eyes, which took off quickly reaching 20k hits in 10 weeks. He sees it as a ‘vital part of everyday business’.
When not in the shop, competing or networking; he is teaching his three daughters about the butchery trade in the same way their father did, from helping on the farm and seeing livestock born to watching their dad. You never know, we might have a future Wood butcherette.
