Blackburn and Darwen markets are taking part in a national event called ‘Love your Local Markets’ by giving potential new businesses the chance to trade for a day during the month of May. Commercial Manager, David Smith is looking for businesses who could become potential stall holders in three categories; artisan and crafts stalls, young entrepreneurs (16 – 21) or not for profit organisations, community groups, schools and charities.
The cost will be just £5 for a one-day pitch on Darwen Market and £10 at Blackburn Market.
David explains, ‘We know that more and more shoppers are sampling the markets in Blackburn and Darwen and loving it! This is an opportunity get the other side of the counter and sample life as a stall holder. Both markets offer something unique to traders in their own way. They are distinctly different in the environment, the stalls and the characters you meet. We suggest that you try both!’
Blackburn BID Chairman, Mark Smith who owns the Exchange Coffee network of outlets and wholesale business, welcomed the initiative. ‘I started my life in business with a market stall and it’s a great place for an individual, enterprising person to cut its teeth. Some of our most successful household names began as market traders. Look at the Marks and Spencer that began as a penny bazaar on Kirkgate Market in Leeds!’
Love your Local Markets runs from 14 – 28 May 2014. Potential stall holders interested in the ‘Trade for a Day’ opportunity should contact David Smith on 01254 669258 or email info@blackburnmarket.com
