Stalls at Blackburn Market will be bedecked in red rose flags and banners to join in with celebrations across the county to mark Lancashire Day.
Activities begin this Saturday (23 November) with a community art project led by Elizabeth Emmens Wilson in the style of Lancashire artist, L S Lowry. Visitors will be able to create matchstick figures to add to an 8 foot landscape mural of the town.
Mike Waters from Blackburn Artists Society is creating the backdrop. His other community exhibition work includes creating a World War One trench scene at the BBC Open Centre and the Blackburn Giant kitchen scene that is part of a display now on show at Heatley’s Chambers next to Mercers Toy Shop on Darwen Street. He will be painting in the Market on Thursday morning (21 November) when visitors will be able to watch Mike in action.
On Lancashire Day itself, Wednesday 27th November, musical entertainment will be provided by the Phil Knight Experience who will be performing traditional Lancashire folk tunes and poetry complete with flat caps.
Clitheroe Town Crier, Roland Hailwood will also be visiting the market to make the Lancashire Day proclamation at around 2.15pm. Stall holders will be providing samples of home-grown produce throughout the week.
