Blackburn Market is getting behind this year’s St. George’s Day celebrations in the town by sponsoring the red roses that the local Royal Society of St. George hand out to shoppers and visitors.
The society will be celebrating the patron saint of England on Thursday 23 April and Saturday 25 April around the town centre, with Saturday featuring music, dance and fun fair rides for children. The society also host an annual stall dressing competition in the market when traders on Blackburn Market are encouraged to dress their stall up for St. George’s Day to compete for a winner’s trophy.
Michael Pilkington, Deputy Chairman of the Blackburn Royal Society of St. George, said “We are very grateful to Blackburn Market for supporting the celebrations in the town centre by sponsoring the roses this year. We always look forward to working with the market each year when many stall holders put in a real effort to celebrate St. George’s Day.”
David Smith, Commercial Manager of Blackburn Market, added “The annual stall dressing competition is a real tradition on the market and it has been great to work with the Royal Society of St. George this year, to help them celebrate St. George’s Day across the town.”
